The refurbishment and extension of a part dilapidated 2 bedroom house in West Sussex to create a 4 bedroom family home with 2 bathrooms, a large open plan living, dining room and kitchen, utility, wc, home office and snug. The proposal involved the removal of several outbuildings and the rebuilding of an existing garage such that the completed house is 280 sq.m – a gain of 200 sq.m within the South Downs National Park. The historic part of the Coach House has been retained and new elements blended through the use of hung tiles, bricks to match and a catslide roof. The energy performance of the building has been improved above and beyond building regulations standards, it avoids the use of roof lights due to being in a dark skies zone and includes Bat tiles and additional landscape works.
