PROJECT:
Herondale Avenue
PROJECT TYPE:
Extension and refurbishment
LOCATION:
Wandsworth

One World Design Architects were appointed to design and project manage the complete refurbishment and extension of a 5 bedroom family home in Wandsworth, London. The extension is designed to bring the garden into the home and create an open plan kitchen dining and entertainment space. With the clients support our aim here has been to encourage biodiversity, to bring life to the roof, walls and pond, to create opportunities for flora, fauna, insects, amphibians and birds alike to inhabit the garden and building. The extension is formed by two half barrel vaulted sedum roofs which create height and the opportunity to bring light in from the sides. The vaults project beyond the large glazed sliding doors framing the view of the garden and providing shade and shelter. The floor finish and living wall spans from inside to out and the high level glazing creates an airy and bright space which melds seamlessly with the garden. The wider refurbishment works included upgrading the energy performance of the building with a new heating system, new windows, new bathrooms and utility room and finishes throughout.
