One-world design have developed a design for an new greengrocers and apartment by one-world design in a conservation area in Battersea. The proposal replaces an existing single storey mid 20th century greengrocers owned by the same family who have run a greengrocers in the area since 1880.
The proposal is respectful to the scale of the surrounding buildings. It has a modest form, remaining within the footprint of the existing building, and remains subservient to the neighbouring townhouses that surround it. The mass of the building is kept from dominating the adjacent street by breaking up the elevation with horizontal banding, and glazing at street level. The building’s pitched roof form with dormer windows is designed to be in keeping with the character of the conservation area whilst avoiding potential overlooking issues.
Construction was finished in mid-2014.
